IAEA project: MEREIA

IAEA project - MEREIA (Methods for Radiological and Environmental Impact Assessment)

The programme – Methods for Radiological and Environmental Impact assessment (MEREIA) – will run from 2021 to 2025. It aims to help countries apply assessment approaches, conceptual models, mathematical models and data within the broader context of environmental impact assessment.

MERIEA will further the development of the models and methodologies initiated by the MODARIA programme and aims to build international consensus on good practice in this area.

The MEREIA programme is intended for professionals from regulatory bodies, operating organizations, technical support organisations, scientists, researchers, decision-makers and others with responsibilities in carrying out radiological environmental impact assessments.

  • Setting up a mentoring programme for young professionals to increase understanding of how environmental models are used in radiological assessments and expertise in their development. ;
  • Helping young professionals and less experienced experts to improve their knowledge and expertise in the area of REIA.
  • Allowing young professionals to access more readily the wide pool of experience available through MEREIA.
